After the bastion had served its purpose as a fortress and artillery site, soap was boiled and wool dyed here. It now serves as an event venue and offers a home for art exhibitions. Currently (March 2023) 200 black and white photographs of 200 residents of Colonia between the ages of 1 and 100 can be seen. Worth seeing!

Among many of its attractions and old buildings we can highlight the Bastion del Carmen, built in 1880 and which remains in very good condition despite various restorations. The Carmen Bastion was built with the purpose of serving as an artillery platform in the battles that took place in the city of Colonia between the Spanish and the Portuguese. When these disputes ended, it became a glue and soap factory, years later a barracks and a grain warehouse and later a wool washing plant and a tannery.
