Vandring

The former main guardhouse (Grote Markt 15) is a single-storey building with an open gallery, fitted with bluestone impost mouldings and keystones. It was built in the mid-18th century, sold to the city in 1819 and largely destroyed in 1944.

During the restoration in 1950-'51, a fire station (Julianastraat 2) was built at the rear with a slender hose tower fitted with a square lantern in traditionalist shapes.

Vandring

This typical building is located in the heart of Sluis, on the Groote Markt. Many visitors wonder what it is... The side of the building clearly indicates that it is the fire station.

The building originally dates back to the mid-18th century, but was largely destroyed during World War II. During the restoration, the Snake Tower, designed by the architect Bedaux, was built. The tower was used for drying fire hoses and for climbing exercises.

Vandring

The Sluis fire station dates back to the mid-18th century. During World War II, the fire station was largely destroyed. It was subsequently rebuilt with a hose tower. The tower served to dry fire hoses, which was important for their longevity. At a height of about 10 meters, there is a balustrade that was used for climbing exercises with hook ladders.
