A square built in the 16th century when the fortifications of the medieval city were moved. Noble families built representative city palaces around the square.

Vandring

The long square connects the old town with the 18th century new town, which was founded by Duke Stanislas. The west and east sides are bordered by two rows of plane trees. A low wall surrounds the square, the corners are formed by four fountains with children's figures. At the southern and northern ends, a high wrought iron fence borders the square.

Third site of the UNESCO architectural ensemble of the 18th century, this square created in the 16th century, then remodeled in the 18th, was originally a place of jousts and tournaments, hence its name "Carrière".
