This smaller sister of the Stari Most spans a narrow tributary of the Neretva. She's not quite as spectacular as her bigger sister, but still very nice to look at and a worthwhile goal.

What is the historical significance of Kriva Ćuprija in relation to Stari Most?

Kriva Ćuprija, built in 1558, holds a unique place in Mostar's history as the oldest single-arch bridge in the city. It served as a crucial test model for the grander Stari Most, which was completed in 1566. Ottoman architects and engineers used Kriva Ćuprija to perfect their construction techniques and assess material strength and arch stability on a smaller scale before undertaking the larger project. This makes it a fascinating precursor to Mostar's most famous landmark.

Are there any specific walking routes or trails that incorporate Kriva Ćuprija?

While Kriva Ćuprija itself is a small bridge, it's an integral part of the Old Town's pedestrian network. Many walking tours of Mostar's Old Town naturally include the bridge, often connecting it with the Stari Most and other historical sites. You can easily plan a circular walk that takes you across both bridges, through the cobblestone streets, and past charming cafes and shops. The area is designed for exploration on foot.

What kind of terrain can I expect when walking around Kriva Ćuprija and the Old Town?

The terrain around Kriva Ćuprija and throughout Mostar's Old Town consists primarily of ancient cobblestone paths and stone steps. While generally considered easy for walking, it can be uneven in places. Comfortable, sturdy footwear with good grip is highly recommended to navigate the historical surfaces safely and enjoyably.

Is Kriva Ćuprija accessible for visitors with mobility concerns or those using wheelchairs?

Access to Kriva Ćuprija is via stone steps on both sides, and the surrounding Old Town features numerous cobblestone paths and varying elevations. This can present challenges for visitors with mobility concerns or those using wheelchairs. While the area is beautiful, it's not fully wheelchair-accessible due to its historic nature.

Where are the best spots for photography or scenic views of Kriva Ćuprija?

Kriva Ćuprija offers several picturesque angles for photography. The bridge itself, with its single arch spanning the Radobolja River, is charming. For a classic shot, try capturing it from the riverbanks, especially where the water cascades. The surrounding historic millhouses and lush greenery also provide a beautiful backdrop. Early mornings or late afternoons often offer the best light and fewer crowds for capturing its serene beauty.

What are the best parking options when visiting Kriva Ćuprija?

Direct parking in Mostar's Old Town, where Kriva Ćuprija is located, is very limited and often challenging. It's advisable to look for paid parking lots just outside the pedestrianized Old Town area. Many visitors opt to park a short walk away and enjoy the stroll into the historic center.
