The building was built in 1529 under the rule of the Counts of Eppstein as the town hall of Hofheim. The ground floor originally served as a merchant's hall and courthouse. During the Hofheim witch trials, interrogations took place here from 1595 to 1603. After a renovation around 1710, the ground floor was used for various municipal purposes, including as a police station, detention center, calibration office, and storage room for firefighters, hearses, and stretchers. The upper floor housed the mayor's office, the registry office, and the meeting room for the city council.
