The depiction of the animal is reduced to its basic form, with the artist deliberately omitting the fine details. The rough modeling is evident in the visible lumps of clay he added to the model, which also characterize the subsequent bronze casting.
A comparison of his works reveals that Ruwoldt often alternated between very smooth and roughly modeled pieces, also demonstrating various levels of abstraction.
