On the 60th birthday of their famous and beloved fellow citizen, Anton Günther, the citizens of Gottesgabe donated this memorial. Born here on June 5, 1876, the folk poet and composer of around 140 dialect songs, distinguished by their love of homeland and ethnic patriotism, is also considered the inventor of the song postcard. Suffering from severe depression, Günther took his own life on April 29, 1937, at the age of not yet 61. He is buried in the Gottesgabe cemetery.

The monument is the only one erected during Anton Günther's lifetime and was dedicated on June 5, 1936. The town of Gottesgab honored its famous citizen on his 60th birthday. Following the expulsion of the German-Bohemian population after the end of World War II, it was destroyed in 1945.

After the political changes, the Boží Dar municipal administration and the community of heirs agreed in 1990 to rebuild it, which was largely financed by the Schwarzenberg Erzgebirge branch association. On June 1, 1991, the monument was ceremoniously rededicated on the occasion of Anton Günther's 115th birthday.
