Church in Großröhrsdorf.

Information:

This stately hall church was built between 1731 and 1736 on the site of an older building.

On the morning of August 4, 2023, a fire broke out, caused by arson. The church burned down, and the roof and steeple collapsed. The church is currently being rebuilt. Scaffolding surrounds the structure. A roof has been erected to keep the remaining masonry dry and to protect the interior of the ruins.

Vandring

Visible from afar, the almost 50 m high tower of the town church of Großröhrsdorf greets you. It is a typical baroque church, which was inaugurated on October 8, 1736 by the well-known Dresden superintendent Valentin Ernst Löscher. The altar and baptismal font are wooden copies of the marble sacred objects that adorned St. Thomas Church in Leipzig until 1945. A Großröhrsdorfer initiated the production in 1745 and financed it out of love for his home community. With 48 sounding stops and three manuals, the organ is one of the very large ones in Saxony.
