Protected but not popular: the cormorant and gray heron colony on the Curonian Spit. Thousands of nests support the trees in the forest near Juodkrantė, which have almost died from excessive bird droppings.

The droppings of these birds destroy all the plants in the area, including their nesting trees. Once these trees are dead, they move on. Thus, these birds have become a nuisance.
