Maquis de Bagatelle was a resistance group that fought against the German occupation in Belgium during World War II. They had a secret landing site in the plaine Baleine, where they received weapons and supplies from the Allies. However, on June 7, 1944, they were betrayed and attacked by the SS, who killed 23 maquisards and captured 15. A monument has been erected in memory of the fallen in the forest of Vyle-et-Tharoul.

The Chemin du mémoire is a walking route that follows the history of the resistance against the German occupation during the Second World War in the Vyle-et-Tharoul region. The route is 8.8 km long and starts at the castle of Vyle-et-Tharoul. Along the way you will pass several memorial sites, such as the chapel of the maquis of Bagatelle, the plaine de parachutage, and the monument to the fallen in the forest of Vyle-et-Tharoul. The route is signposted with blue rectangles and the emblem of the Secret Army.

"The first platoon of the 177 mounts a vigilant guard. Nothing happens that night, no parachuting, and around 4 a.m. the return to the PC (command post) takes place. Another day spent keeping watch.
On the 3rd at 8 a.m., a civilian entered the woods and was arrested by CP sentries.
