Vandring

This is not just any observatory, this is the location of the Hainberg astrograph. Karl Schwarzschild and Ejnar Hertzsprung did research here. History of science was written here (Hertzsprung-Russell diagram)!
Nowadays this area is lovingly looked after by the Amateur Astronomical Association Göttingen e.V. This also includes the possibility of public tours. Dates and a lot of interesting information can be found at avgoe.de. It is worth it!

Vandring

A new observatory had been built on the Hainberg above the city as the third Göttingen observatory since 1929; first the astrograph for the photometry of star clusters, then in the early forties the solar tower with a coelostat and spectrograph for investigations of the solar spectrum.

The sun tower is a few hundred meters further in the direction of the Bismarck tower.
