Vandring

Neuf-Brisach is a fortification built at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, which remains almost completely intact to this day. Its builder was Prestre de Vauban, after whom the district of Freiburg was later named. The fortifications are arranged in a star shape and could be freely designed on the drawing board, as it was a completely new construction, which did not require consideration of any existing features. As a result, Neuf-Brisach also corresponds to the ideal type of a Baroque military town.

Once around the outer walls of Neuf Brisach, there is a promenade, depending on your mood down in the "Graben" or on the top of the embankment - nice to walk.

The city was built at the beginning of the 18th century by the fortress builder Prestre de Vauban together with his genius director Jacques Tarade, who laid it out as a planned city in the shape of an octagon with a central parade ground, which is now used as a market square, and a chessboard-shaped street network as the ideal form of a fortress city . The city had accommodation for the soldiers and officers, supply facilities, a church, houses for non-military residents of the various classes and an impressive complex of walls, ditches and gates around the city.
