Vandring
Barred Island Preserve is on the southern part of Deer Isle. There is a shady trail through amazing mossy forests to reach the island. Barred island is connected to the mainland by a small sand bar at low tide, which provides excellent bathing opportunities in warmer weather. At high tide the island is inaccessible by foot since the sandbar is covered by about 4-5 feet of water.

There are two parking areas on Goose Cove Rd. You will find a well marked trail down to the island. It leads through the magical fog forest, beautiful mossy openings and over a couple boulders. We took a quick dip in the ocean, even though is pretty cold water. The fog changed the atmosphere again and again. We even saw a seal.

Vandring
Access to 'Barred Island' in the south of the 'Barred Island Preserve' is possible at low tide via a sandbar. The atmosphere of the landscape and the views are fantastic.
