226 steps lead you up - a 4.45 meter high, 4.50 meter wide and 28 ton heavy bronze figure and a 360-degree all-round view await you on the so-called Lion Hill. The whole thing was built in honor of the Prince of Orange, who was probably wounded here during the Battle of Waterloo.

The Lion of Waterloo (French: Butte du Lion) is a memorial for the Battle of Waterloo (18 June 1815). Actually it is not in Waterloo but in Mont-Saint-Jean.

This symbol of the terrible Battle of Waterloo dominates the spot where the Allies defeated Napoleon's troops. The famous lion still roars towards France from a height of 40 meters.
You can climb the 226 steps and get an overview of the battlefield at that time.

The Butte du Lion is a 40-metre-high monument erected in 1826 at the request of William I, who wanted to mark the presumed place where his eldest son was wounded on 18 June 1815.

At the top of the 226 steps, the view embraces the Battlefield of Waterloo 1815. An orientation table allows you to understand the movements of the troops, the square formations of the infantry, the deployment of the cavalry.
