Many years ago, the Hohe Wand was one of my favorite climbing destinations; we used to pedal up to the Eicherthütte with fully loaded bikes. It must be absolutely gorgeous there in autumn.

If you have time you can cycle  through gorgeous Rosandra valley from Trieste on old railway. komoot.com/tour/1955414331?ref=aso or on old railway through Izola to Croatian border but this one is asphalt. And FYI Railjet 132 to Vienna has 90 minutes delay during the week because of work on Italian side
