With temperatures around 2°C and a fine drizzle, my son-in-law and I went for a mountain bike ride today. We did our usual route via the Rhine-Herne Canal, Ruhrpark, Duisburg City Forest, Mülheim Uhlenhorst, Wambach Valley (including a ride through the rushing Wambach stream 😂), Auberg, Ruhr Valley

It wasn't as windy today as on Christmas Eve, but after more than two hours my toes were cold despite wearing overshoes. Otherwise, a very nice hike.

This time, I took a walk before the feast, just to be on the safe side. Bundled up warmly in the icy north wind and around 0°C, I walked across the Haniel slag heap and back. Very few people around 🤔.

After last night's heavy thunderstorm, following a week of extreme heat, this afternoon saw the long peninsula loop. The roads were covered in dirt, sand, and gravel due to erosion from the heavy rain. The Route de Sel between Giens and L'Almanarre was flooded in places up to 10 cm deep. Rocky uphills

After the disappointment in the backcountry, today I rode a familiar but always enjoyable route. The Colle Noire offers very nice S1, S2, and S3 trails. Rocky terrain and loose scree form excellent technical trails. The same goes for the Mont des Oiseaux. Steep, rocky, and XXL gravel.

Back in Hyeres – Yesterday at the Cannes Yachting Festival, today finally the first tour in perfect weather. 27 degrees Celsius with a steel-blue sky and a pleasant mistral. That's how it should be.
