Right next to the steamer pier on Herreninsel is the former Augustinian monastery, also known as the "Old Palace." It is one of the oldest monasteries in Bavaria and was dissolved in 1803. Today, it houses several museums. Next to it stands the Herrenchiemsee Palace Inn.

The Monastery Trail connects the three most important monasteries in the Chiemgau region: Seeon, Baumburg, and Frauenwörth, making for an impressive circular tour. On the way from Gollenhausen to Mühlner Hafen, we also completed the final kilometers of the Chiemsee circuit.

After arriving in Eggstätt, we first went on a short exploratory tour of the surrounding area. Experience has shown that the roads and narrow shore paths around Lake Chiemsee are very busy on Sundays. Therefore, with the exception of Gstadt, we took quieter side roads.
