The Viereckteich was created from a silted-up body of water in the Georgengarten (UNESCO World Heritage Site Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom).
Around 1927 the square water surface was excavated and surrounded by straight paths.
The pavilions set up at the corner points have disappeared, a zigzag slope south of the pond is only visible in the woody stock.
However, the water surface, paths and birch trees on a terrace east of the pond could be restored.
