And finally, at the time of the Hungarian incursions in the 10th century (perhaps by St. Wolfgang, Bishop of Regensburg) a fortified Palatinate was built on the Frauenberg - the oldest construction phase of the Frauenberg chapel, the preserved foundations of the representative palace and the still 11.8 m high "Wolfgang Wall" testify to this.

"Quem beatus Wolfgangus antecessor meus icastellavit", which (ie the Wolfgangswall) St. Wolfgang, my fifth predecessor (as bishop of Regensburg) has attached. These lines are the only written source for Wolfgangswall. They prove that between 972 and 994 fortifications have taken place here.
All further knowledge comes from an excavation that took place here in 1966 in the course of today's journey.

It has been documented that between 972 and 994 there were fortifications.
In 1966 an excavation took place here.
Traces of fire prove that a wooden fortification was destroyed by fire.
Thereafter, the fortifications were renovated in stone construction. It is probably a castle of the bishops of Regensburg from the early 11th century.
A historical connection to the nearby late Roman small fort could not be proven.
