The town of Schackendorf has been part of the municipality of Veilsdorf since 1974. The districts of Veilsdorf and Schackendorf have grown closer together through the construction of private homes. Schackendorf was first mentioned in a document in 1399 in an exchange contract of the monastery. The Central German word "Scacho" means mountain ledge and describes the location of the town at the foot of the Leite of the same name. The development took place on the highway that leads from Hildburghausen to Eisfeld, rising gently above Veilsdorf

The newly designed village square in the center of the village with adjoining toilets and the hall of the village barn is a popular meeting point for the village community and is a really great success.
The home association organizes various events here. Whether it's Walpurgis Night or the Christmas market, the festivals that take place here enliven village life,
a great thing.
The Backhausfest takes place here every Ascension Day weekend.
