With the construction and expansion of the barrier systems on the inner German border, observation towers or border towers were an important part of the border security system. The towers of this type in the GDR were mainly used to prevent GDR citizens from escaping and were usually located directly behind the front border installations (border fence or border wall). The observation towers, which were originally made of wood, were replaced by concrete towers from around 1969. These towers consisted of prefabricated concrete elements and an observation cockpit.

After the border was opened in autumn 1989 and the border fortifications were subsequently dismantled, most of the observation towers were demolished. Today, there are still a few towers along the former border that can be visited as part of border museums. Some towers are also privately owned.

This tower is a former observation tower of the former GDR border. The actual border line with the patrol path is about 1 km to the south, but the observation towers were in the 5 km wide exclusion zone.

Unfortunately, there is no information about this tower on site. It is also not possible to enter it.
