The view of the Águas Livres Aqueduct in Lisbon is one of the most impressive in the city, both for its scale and its history.
The Free Waters Aqueduct (Aqueduto das Águas Livres) was built between 1731 and 1799 by order of King João V to supply drinking water to Lisbon. Its most iconic section crosses the Alcântara Valley, where 35 arches rise, the tallest at 65 meters high, considered one of the largest stone arches in the world.

This historic aqueduct was built in the early 18th century under King John V to supply Lisbon with clean water. A remarkable engineering feat of its time, it stretches 58 kilometers, with the main section being 18 kilometers. Today, the aqueduct is open to tourists, and visitors can cross it for a small fee.
