The Old Fort is a 17th-century Omani stronghold built between 1698 and 1701. The fortress was built on the site of a former Portuguese church. In the 19th century the fort served as a prison where executions also took place. Inside is an almost square inner courtyard that was used in British times as a women's tennis court that was protected from view. Since 1994, there has been a cultural center, shops and a stage where artistic performances take place.

This highlight is drawn in the wrong place. Here is the former slave market! The old fort is almost on the water and is marked in the right place in komoot under the name "Arabian Fort".
