The design of the natural theater in the classic sense with a semicircular, sunken auditorium and a raised, slightly sloping stage began as early as 1761. On either side of the proscenium were passageways of wooden latticework with portal architecture. These were destroyed in 1843 by a falling elm and were not rebuilt. Only recently have trees been planted in their place to convey the spatial effect again.

The bathhouse, described as a precious masterpiece in the Schwetzingen Palace Gardens, was built by Elector Carl Theodor between 1768 and 1772 as a retreat for literature, music, private conversations, and more.
Note the admirable details, created entirely by hand in the 18th century without CAD, such as the parquet flooring.
The five combined native wood species have been skillfully laid seamlessly to this day. The dark inlays, for example, are made of bog oak and, to protect the surface, may only be walked on wearing felt overshoes.
