The ancestral stronghold of the former family of Buchenau lies on a rocky outcrop in the Eitratal. The castle has been steadily expanded over the centuries due to a rapidly growing family and has developed into a Ganerbenburg. Origin of the plant is the Mirror Castle, which was followed by the Seckendorff Castle. At a later time, the Upper Castle with Generalshaus and between 1611 and 1618 the Schenck Castle.

Unfortunately, the castle is not accessible. As it looked, although restoration work is being carried out, the castle complex, however, seems to be decaying in some areas.

The von Buchenau family had many descendants, so this castle was built between 1611 and 1618 above the main castle and south of the general's house. Builder Georg Melchior von Buchenau was married to Agnes von Schwalbach. He was the son of the Spiegel Castle builder Eberhardt von Buchenau. The Renaissance Castle Buchenau is also known under the name Schenck Castle, since the stately building came into the possession of the von Schenck zu Schweinsberg family in 1692. buchenau.info/schenck-schloss
