The neo-Gothic basilica "Holy Cross Church" in Aachen was built between 1898 and 1902. Before her stood a church from the 14th century, which was demolished in 1683 and had to give way to a baroque new building. This in turn was demolished again in 1897.
The current church was destroyed in World War II in 1944 and rebuilt in 1951.

The Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche, located in the middle of the student quarter, was built according to plans by Josef Buchkremer and was consecrated in 1902 and is a cross-shaped three-aisled basilica. Due to the limited building space, another form was out of the question at this point. Architecturally, the church is made up of elements from German and French High Gothic.
