The name is reminiscent of the Dominican monastery that was located here in the Middle Ages.
The old buildings were completely destroyed in the great city fire of 1844. The new buildings were built in the rectangular square that still exists today. Several of the late classical houses are still standing.
In 2003, the fountain was created, reminiscent of the former importance of the square.

The fountain and the surrounding ambience with its seating invite you to rest, look, touch and feel. Not only do the native birds treat themselves to a bath here, but you can also see children splashing around in the summer. And you can always sit comfortably on the lion.
The 3 granite pillars of different heights and thicknesses with figures that reflect the Vogtland and the history of the square - the monastery market - rise up in the fountain bowl.
