The bridge is currently being renovated (July 2022) and the following paths are closed:
- Way over the bridge
- Path under the bridge on the eastern bank; the path on the western bank, however, is open.
Detours are signposted on site, but they are quite long. For example To get from the Triebtal to the other bank, the diversion leads up to Jocketa, down to Barthmühle and from there south along the western bank of the Elster. A detour of almost an hour and several meters in altitude.

The Elstertal Bridge is the second largest brick bridge in the world, the height is 68 meters and the width is 279 meters. It was built from 1846 to 1851. Unfortunately, it was destroyed shortly before the end of the war in 1945, but was quickly rebuilt as it is an important railway connection.

The bridge is unfortunately always in the shadow of the big sister, the Göltzschtalbrücke. It is also impressive and it even leads a footpath over the bridge.
