It is the oldest school in Romania and one of the most important high schools in the city, the most important with exclusively German-language instruction. The current building was built in 1779 and is located in the center on Piața Huet, right next to the Evangelical Parish Church, to which it belonged for a long time. The school is named after Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, who mentioned it in his will and bequeathed significant assets to it.
