Because of the war-related higher demand for zinc, zinc ore was mined here in 1915. Medieval tunnels were cut several times. As on the neighboring dump of shaft XV, a heavy metal biotope that is worthy of protection has developed here, in which bedstraw summer root grows.

From 1923 to 1925, shaft 52 was used for ventilation (= supply of fresh air) to the investigation section 20 going from shaft XVII. The special feature of the shaft: the remains are typical shaft heaps. A heavy metal flora has also developed, which can be recognized by the massive occurrence of ribwort.
