The North Pier here at the mouth of the Rhine (or Maas estuary) has a 1.6 km long footpath. Here you can wonderfully watch the 80,000 ships that call the port of Rotterdam every year. You are standing on one of the busiest waterways on our planet.
Attention: In case of unfavorable weather or tides, mighty breakers hit the pier.
