The nature reserve has always been known for the large number of amphibians. The natural and man-made water bodies and the moist forests are ideal spawning and wintering grounds for the common toad, which occurs in large numbers, for common and moor frogs and for the crested newt. The significant existence of the latter has led to the registration of the Reit as a flora-fauna-habitat area with the European Union, which means that Hamburg is obliged to stricter protection in the international network.

On the dike you have a great view of the Dove Elbe. The forest paths are wonderfully meandering, criss-crossed by soil roots. There is something to discover everywhere. Worthwhile. There is a subsequent round around the Eichbaumsee :-)

Jungle feeling and Elbe idyll await you in the nature reserve Die Reit. It lies at the confluence of the Dove Elbe and Gose Elbe in the Reitbrook district of Hamburg. In addition to the beautiful landscape, you can look out for birds while hiking. Geese and ducks in particular feel at home here. And in spring, a veritable frog concert should await you.
