The Bergsche Maas is a man-made river that wasn't completed until 1904. It was dug to canalize the Maas from Well. Doeveren is also home to the Elshout Sea Dike, which was constructed around 1500. Its purpose was to protect the land from the Baardwijk Overlaat.

A nice and quiet hike over the Zeedijk, from Drunen to the farming village of Doeveren on the Bergschen Maas, where there is a lot of shipping traffic.

From here it is worth continuing over the Maas dike,
(heavily exposed to the sun in summer) after
beautiful old fortress town Heusden, with the small harbor and the historic fish market.

This city is worth exploring, also from a culinary point of view ......
