At the end of a cul-de-sac, the Ahr rises here in a well room that can be seen behind two gates. Compared to the sources of other rivers (which can sometimes hardly be found in the forest), this one is very easy to access, photogenic and the Ahr already has enough water to drive a small water wheel a little downstream in the village.

The source of the Ahr is in the middle of the village between beautifully restored half-timbered houses. From the source you have a magnificent view of the old town, because the pretty, old buildings together with the parish church and the castle form a very picturesque sight. Blankenheim and the source of the Ahr are definitely worth a visit.
