Gaistal and Rotmoosferner are wonderful destinations for the first start days, when you have just arrived in Obergurgl. The lift saves the strenuous climb and hiking on the high plateau ensures decent acclimatization. Then there are these gigantic views and insights and the wonderful return march through these beautiful valleys (either Gaisnbachtal or Rotmoostal) back to Obergurgl. The glacier is completely covered with rubble at the bottom. Sometimes you see people looking for garnets. With a little luck you can find your own small stone inclusions.
