On a hill, 3 km outside Potes, in the direction of Fuente Dé, there is a church with a monastery: Monasterio Santo Toribio. This is the oldest monastery in Spain.

Around the 8th century, after the Reconquest of Liébana, the remains of Bishop Toribio de Astorga were brought to this monastery. With him, they brought the relics of the Lignum Crucis, supposedly brought from Jerusalem.

The monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana is the arrival point of the Camino Lebaniego. A building that has undergone many modifications and that conserves little of its initial structure. The frame is nevertheless wonderful, between forest and mountain.
