Under a bright blue sky and spring-like temperatures, we enjoyed a lovely hike near Arcen today. We saw lots of nature along the way through the Maasduinen dunes and plenty of sunshine along the Meuse River 😊. Arcen has a pretty little town hall square with nice cafes and restaurants. Unfortunately

A beautiful hike through the Dämmerwald forest near Schermbeck. This extensive woodland area belongs to the Hohe Mark nature reserve and, in addition to wide forest and hiking trails, also offers some lovely trails and paths (especially along the forest stream). A pleasant and varied Sunday hike through the Süchteln hills with a bit of up and down (even the Lower Rhine has that!), beautiful forest paths, a few trails, and dogs are allowed off-leash. The small Irmgadis Chapel, the Bismarck Tower, and the old flood control reservoir are worth seeing. Highly recommended!

A lovely and leisurely Sunday walk in rather chilly temperatures. We started in Oedt near the Uda castle ruins and then continued on to Fritzbruch. Unfortunately, direct access to the water is no longer possible. At the end, we made a detour to the Dorenburg open-air museum in Grefrath; it's definitely worth a visit 😊.

Rund um den Laacher See
Zum Abschluss eines schönen Wanderwochenendes eine Tour um den Laacher See und ein kurzer Abstecher zur Abtei Maria Laach. Vom oberen Höhenweg hat man ein paar sehr schöne Ausblicke auf den See und die bunt gefärbten, herbstlichen Wälder. Die Abtei ist eine nett anzusehende, eher schlichte Kirche aber kein Muss. Das Seehotel Maria Laach ist wohl eher für zahlungskräftiges Klientel gedacht. Insgesamt eine schöne Tour 🙂

A very beautiful and also challenging tour: it included sections of the Rhine Castle Trail, the Springs Trail, and the Heavenly Ladder. What looks like a quarry is indeed one, although lava was extracted here from an extinct cinder cone volcano.
