The Peene bei Anklam, also called Untere Peene, rises at the Kummerower See and flows into the Peene River, which connects the Oderhaff with the Baltic Sea via the Achterwasser.

Due to its technical wear and tear, the construction was replaced in the 70s by the "old Peene Bridge" as a temporary structure designed for a maximum of 7 years. This temporary solution was called the “longest bridge in the world” because the curvature of the bridge body was so strong that you could not see the other end at the foot of the bridge. In the end, the temporary solution lasted for 21 years. On October 13, 1994, the Peene Tor Bridge was put into operation at the same location.
