There is an impact-like crater on the side of the rock facing the path. In World War II, the Rur represented an important strategic border. In connection with the heavy fighting in the Hürtgen Forest, the town of Brück was almost completely destroyed by the Americans on December 6, 1944, due to the strategic importance of the Rur bridge, by Luftwaffe bombing and shelling. The crater is an impact site from this time of war. Perhaps at that time German soldiers sought safety from attacks behind the rock wall.
