The frigate Cöln was a small cruiser and also the first German warship to have "Cologne" in its name. On August 28, 1914, a devastating naval battle with enemy fleet units took place off Heligoland: Five British battlecruisers - far superior in armament and speed - faced two small German cruisers.
The Cöln sank in the sea with 200 men, and because of the heavy fog, the sailors on the lifeboats could not be found. A total of 506 crew members lost their lives, only one sailor survived the accident after drifting on the waves for 76 hours.
The Cologne farmer (Boor) has always ensured the survival of the population. Either as a farmer on the old military road to Neuss, where large fields of cabbage (Kappes) were planted. Or as a campaigner for the rights of minorities.
He has become an integral part of the Trivolium of the Cologne Carnival, the three-star triumvirate.

The Eigelstein represented as northern extension of the urban Cardo maximus a part of the Roman army road (today federal highway 9), which led from Cologne to the legion camp to Neuss. Over this the Roman legions marched with their relocations between Cologne and the Lower Rhine. Until the 17th century, the egg yolk was called "platea aquilina" (Adlersgasse) before the French occupiers renamed it "rue de l'aigle" (Eagle Street). Trankgasse, Marzellenstraße, Eigelstein and in the further course Neusser Straße still mark the straight line of the Roman Limesstraße today. A Roman burial ground lined the area around this military road. In this area, the oldest glassworks of the city of Cologne were settled because of particularly pure, diluvial sand in pre-Claudian times (middle of the first century AD). In the houses Eigelstein No. 14 and No. 35-39 remains of 17 round and rectangular glass furnaces were detected.
