The Maurertal offers all of the scenic beauties that you would expect from a high alpine valley on a relatively short route: mountain forest, alpine pastures, torrential streams, beautiful trails, a glacial lake, views of the (still) glaciated mountains, and an Alpine Club hut in a particularly beautiful location.
In two to three hours you can climb from the Ströden car park (sometimes a postbus stop) to the Essen-Rostocker hut. This stage is also the first stage of the Venediger Höhenweg Süd, which starts at the Ströden car park.
