The Liechtenstein Gorge is one of the longest and deepest gorges in the Alps. Of the total length of approx. 4 kilometers, 1 kilometer is accessible to visitors. The rocks are up to 300 meters deep and in some places the gorge is only a few meters wide. An adventurous path leads through the gorge over wooden walkways. There is a waterfall at the end of the gorge. According to a legend, the gorge was created when the devil was supposed to bring water to Grossarl as quickly as possible. As early as 1875, this alpine natural spectacle fascinated people so much that the gorge was made accessible to the general public with bridges and footbridges as a summer excursion destination thanks to a donation from Prince Liechtenstein. In the meantime, over 10 million people from all over the world have visited the legendary Liechtenstein Gorge. Hardly any visitor is not fascinated by the tremendous impression and the almost ghostly play of light and shadow in the depths and narrowness of the gorge.
