Mettendorf is a village-shaped township in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in the southern Eifel.
The first written mention dates from 832 in the Golden Book of the Abbey Echternach. There Mettendorf is listed under the name Machconvillare.
Further names exist with metendorph (1063), mectindorf (1345), villa metendorp (1360), mettendoirff (1451), meittendorf (1563) and Mettendorf (since 1621).

First, the place belonged to the Abbey Prüm before he came in 1220 to the Luxembourg County of Vianden. Here Mettendorf was then the seat of a jury and the main place of a dairy egg.
