One of the branches of an old land route system, the Ochsenweg, crosses the Gieselau with a ford near the old border between Dithmarschen and Holstein (today the district border with Rendsburg-Eckernförde).

The name Ochsenweg goes back to the ox drifts that were common in the Middle Ages and early modern times. Trains with oxen were driven south, fattened on the way through forest pastures and sold to large cities like Hamburg for meat supply.

The Dithmarscher Ochsenweg is a side branch of the main route from the Jutian peninsula via Rendsburg to Itzehoe.

The ford that has been preserved is typical for a crossing of smaller brooks with solid ground, which was possible by horse and high-wheeled wagon. Today the road to the ford is overgrown by alders and bushes. The ravine to the north was much wider due to centuries of use, as often indicated by the kink boundaries of the 18th and 19th centuries. The name of the ford comes from the neighboring corridor Falloh (Lohe means Buschheide).
