The beautiful Broel Towers are some of the few remains of the old city walls, built from limestone and sandstone. The southern Speytorre was built in 1385 to control traffic on the Leie. The tower was also part of the defenses of the first count's castle in Kortrijk. The north tower, called "Inghelburghtorre", dates from 1415 and served as a weapons store.

Not far from the bridge you will find the Leieborders, or the banks of the Leie. They are a true oasis where young and old meet and where you can get to know the locals. Sit comfortably on one of the terraces and watch the people - better than Netflix!
