The natural monument Teufelsfelsen is located in the middle of the FFH area Gersbachtal near Niedersimten. The Teufelsfelsen is a rock formation about 50 meters high, which can be roughly divided into three "storeys". The red sandstone rocks are characterized by small watercourses and caves. Due to its bizarre shape and the sound of the water, the population used to think that this place was the devil's dwelling place, which gave the rock its name. The Teufelsfelsen is also a hiking highlight on the "Devil's Path" named after him.

A great highlight indeed! After and during rain, sticks are no use; we had to pull ourselves up using the railing because the ground kept slipping away. "Going" down would not have been possible in these conditions. (Yes, we walked in the opposite direction and we would do that again and again.) - Based on the photos in the highlight: We didn't have any wooden planks, just a very soft, steep natural path plus ropes or wooden railings below the cave. (There was also no wooden bridge anywhere.)

Most interesting place on the whole trail! At the top, explore the small water-filled cave with a flashlight. At the bottom, you can practically stand under the sprinkling water like under a shower and refresh yourself. A great thing in August!

There is also a good rest area at the Teufelsfels.
