                  Parish Church of St. James

                  The church on the market square is of Romanesque origin. Its foundations in solid quarry stone masonry and the substructures of the towers date from the 13th century. The northern tower was not expanded, but connected to the town hall. The recessed choir was built between 1394 and 1411. The Gothic struts, which were offset twice, have been preserved. The nave originally had six bays. In 1894/95 it was extended by two bays to the west.

                  The interior was decorated with frescoes and stucco in 1750 by the church painter Johann Gebhard and his son Otto Gebhard. The ceiling painting in the choir shows the martyrdom of the apostle James, surrounded by medallions of the four evangelists. The ceiling painting above the gallery was only painted in 1900 by Waldemar Kolmsperger sen. It shows the rescue from a shipwreck with the help of St. James.
                  The high altar was erected during the war. It was designed by architect A. Bachmann from Munich, and the relief in the middle represents the Transfiguration of the Lord. The two apostle figures, Peter (left) and Paul (right), were made by Maximilian Roider from Regensburg.
                  The statues of the holy Regensburg bishops Wolfgang and Emmeram on the Josephi altar (left) and of Blessed Alruna and St. Theresa of Avila on the Sacred Heart altar (right) were created by Thomas Buscher from Munich. The Sebastian and Mary altars with paintings by Waldemar Kolmsperger the Younger were created shortly before the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.
                  The figures of Saints Charles Borrmäus, Odo of Cluny, Florian and George were created by Thomas Buscher around 1910. He also created the figures on the high wall of the nave in 1896 with Saints Francis Xavier, Anthony of Padua, Anna and Monika, the mother of St. Augustinus.
                  The pulpit from 1911 is also a work by the Cham masters Schoyerer, Egen and Brunner. The Barbara altar at the side entrance on the right is dedicated as a war memorial. The very high-quality depiction of the Mater Dolorosa under the cross on the southern wall pillar opposite the pulpit dates from the 18th century and was brought to the parish church from the Calvary Church during the restoration in 1961/62.
