    From Christmas 1944 to early 1945, Daun was under constant fire. At the end of the Second World War, Daun was almost razed to the ground. Over 80 percent of the houses were bombed. The nearby villages also had the same need and the people from Darscheid, like many people from other villages, sought protection in the depths of the forests.
