Back then, the deep-frozen ground of the tundra thawed superficially during the short summer months. And the constant alternation between frost and thaw loosened rocks that slowly migrated down the valley on the thawed, slippery clay mud. Many Venn streams, including the town, are literally littered with this rock debris.
