At 68 km, the Schwentine is one of the longest rivers in Schleswig-Holstein. It rises 1.7 km southwest of the highest point of the state, the Bungsberg, on a spring meadow northeast of the village of Bergfeld and flows through the whole of Holstein Switzerland with numerous large lakes.
